McCullum Smashes Fastest Century in His last Test Match

Brendon McCullum, The special New Zealand cricketer Smashes the fastest test cricket century
against Australia. It was his last Test cricket match. He declared the retirement from the all format
of the cricket. He hits century in just 54 delivery, now it's a world record. The earlier record was off
56 balls. He scored 145 from just 79 balls. He dismisses on James Pattinson's delivery and
Nathon Lyon takes a great catch. And that's It for one of the Greatest batsman in the world
cricket. The 34-year-old McCullum retired from international cricket after his side’s seven-wicket loss to Australia at Hagley Oval on Wednesday, which gave the visitors a 2-0 series win and propelled them back to the top of the world Test rankings. From 101 Tests he finished with 6,453 runs, including 12 centuries, 31 half centuries and a Test average of 38.68. However, his influence on the game since he assumed the captaincy in early 2013 is what many believe to be his legacy.
Thanks for his great contribution to world cricket.

The Importance of Sports in Education

Academic learning and sports education  are, actually, the complementariness of each other. They are the two sides of the same coin. If total education makes full development of the over-all personality of a pupil possible, he gets the qualities of leadership, tolerance, sharing and team-spirit from sports.
The mental development, including the power of reasoning and vocational specialization, of course, comes from the academics. It, therefore, becomes imperative that education should result in the mental, moral and physical development of a student.
But no one can deny that, unfortunately, the present-day system of education lays too much stress on mental development, pays only lip sympathy to moral enrichment and completely neglects physical well-being of a student. The over-all result is the coming up of hordes of graduates, postgraduates and diversified professionals with frail body and poor physique.
For an all-round development of a child, the curriculum should include sports and games and health education. Sufficient amount of school time should be devoted to Sports and Physical Training.
It is heartening to note that in order to rectify the past mistake, the C.B.S.E. and most other Boards of Education in many states have made the Sports Education a compulsory subject up to the + 2 level. But the irony is that the subject has yet to get due seriousness and importance in practice.
Sports Education needs to be introduced with all earnestness, because mental and moral development is just not possible without physical development. We must remember that ‘a sound mind dwells only in a sound body’. A strong and healthy student will, in the long run, surpass the pale, sickly, scholar who is merely a bookworm.
A healthy and strong body is not possible without sports. The development of body is very essential in life. All our physical enjoyments, and to some extent, even mental enjoyments, depend upon our body. All our degrees and achievements will be of no use without a good physique and healthy personality.
Life is a struggle and the person with a healthy and strong body alone can face it successfully. Besides promoting health and strength, sports develop many good qualities of the head and the heart. They strengthen the power of endurance and promote discipline, fair play and team spirit.
Young men and women are trained to face defeat with a smile and maintain humility even in victory. Games are the greatest and the healthiest means of refreshment and recreation. They fill one with joy, zeal, vitality and enthusiasm, which help a person a lot in facing the actual odds of life without yielding to gloom or pessimism.
So sports are not only essential but also indispensable for an all-round development of the personality. The famous saying, “The battle of Waterloo was won on the play-grounds of Eton,” correctly and aptly sums up the importance of sports in education.
so, we can say that we should focus on sports as well as education..

sport benefit

As the saying in English goes, “All work and no Play makes Jack a Dull boy”. It has been forgotten that academic learning and sports education complement each other. They resemble the two sides of the same coin. If sports education is carried out accompanied with the academic curriculum, the over-all personality of the student is increased to quite an extent. The qualities of the leadership, sharing, team spirit and tolerance are learnt from sports.
Sports education not only teaches the students to maintain the physical stamina, but also the habit of obedience, discipline, the determination to win, will power, etc. The power of reasoning, mental development, vocational specialization comes from the academic education of the students. Therefore sports education along with the academics result in the all-round development of the students.
Now-a-days the system of education makes the students stress more on their mental development and completely rejects the physical activities. The overall outcome of this is that the developing groups of graduates and professionals have weak bodies and poor physique. The curriculum should include sports, games and physical health education for the all-round development of the students.

Sports education should be introduced in schools and colleges with complete sincerity. It also justifies the statement, “a sound mind resides only in a sound body”. A healthy and strong body is not possible without sports and physical activities.
A good sportsman always learns to obey the rules of the games and the comments of their superiors. It also teaches them leadership qualities, maintaining teamwork and displaying team spirit. Sports education trains the students to face defeat with a smile and maintain the humility even in victory. It is the healthiest means of refreshments and recreation.
Any person good in one walk of life automatically gains confidence in others. So if one is good at sports, it follows that their confidence will spill over to academics as well. With confidence on their side, they are motivated to give their best.
Sports Entrepreneurship Management has become very important in today’s age. With sports being introduced in educational curriculum managing it has become a very important aspect. Various companies like IMG, Octagon, RCS Sports help the educational institutions manage the sports related activities.

With the advent of leagues for various sports like cricket, football, hockey and kabaddi in India the money earning capacity for sports people has considerably increased along with making life easier for them. It has also opened newer avenues for livelihood for people not only in India but across the globe.

Eden Hazard to Real Madrid (Rumours)

It may be kind of rumours that Belgian Playmaker Eden Hazard is close to sign for Los Blancos.
According to some report Chelsea Playmaker is interested to sign for Real Madrid. Eden Hazard
wants to play under "Zizou", the real madrid boss right now. Eden Hazard believes that he can be
better under Zinedine Zidane. He also believes that Zinedine Zidane makes him better as Hazard
loves the attacking way Zinedine Zidane played in his impressive career as well as he is coaching
the real madrid team right now.
But according to another report it is quite difficult that Real Madrid can sign Chelsea Playmaker,
cause hazard play as a left wing, and this place is already fullfilled by the The Game changer
Cristiano Ronaldo,So it may be quite difficult decision for blancos to let The Belgian in.
After viewing the football transfers history, one can easy say that it is quite difficult
to predict that what will happen in the transfer market. So let's see what will happen.

FOCUS OF STUDY

We investigate the ways in which institutionalized sport both conflicts with and complements the educational missions of American secondary and post-secondary schools. The course of study includes:
  • the philosophy of education;
  • physical education and modern sport in the United States;
  • pedagogical practices of coaches and teachers;
  • issues related to urban education;
  • the sociology of sport; and
  • the academic and athletic identification of student athletes in relation to the social categories of (dis)ability, race, ethnicity, class, gender and sexuality.
Students also engage in projects that evaluate the policies of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), and in research related to the motivation and achievement of student athletes at the secondary and intercollegiate levels of competition.

School Education by swami Vivekanand

You cannot teach a child any more than you can grow a plant. The plant develops its own nature. The child also teaches itself. But you can help it to go forward in its own way. What you can do is not of a positive nature but negative. You can take away the obstacles and knowledge comes out of its own nature. Loosen the soil a little, so that it may come out easily. Put a hedge round it, see that it is not kitted by anything. You can supply the growing seed with the materials for the making up of its body, brining to it the earth, the water, the air that it wants. And there your work stops.

Different faces of life

The ancient scriptures say that we are all floating like shells in a vast ocean of life. Even though everybody is born out of the same Consciousness, no two lives are the same. As diverse as our lives are, they are inter-dependent on each other and there is something to learn from everyone.
To get an all-round exposure to life, take out five days – not too many, just five days.
Spend one day – morning to evening, with a farmer. Go with him to the farm early morning and see whatever he does all day. You will become sensitive towards the environment, towards food. A third of the food in the world is wasted and thrown. Spending the day watching the farmer will let us know the hard work and resources that go into producing food and we will think twice before wasting it.
Spend one day in jail (but without committing a crime). You will realize that the people we label as criminals and put in prisons landed there due to circumstances, due to ignorance. When anger grips a person, they are not in control of their actions. If you ask the most hardened criminal, they will say, “I didn’t do it. Something came over me and it just happened.” It will become evident that inside every culprit there is a victim crying for help. Compassion will arise in your heart. If you have hatred in your heart towards anybody, that hatred will vanish.
On the third day, become a school teacher. You will understand why a guru is needed. Wherever you are in life, there are so many that you can help and guide. It brings a deep satisfaction within. It’s not that only those with long hair and beard can be gurus. Everybody can play the role for at least some people. You don’t really need a special skill to be a guru, you need compassion. Being a teacher, you can channel that compassion to people. “I want nothing but my student should progress.” Such unconditional love comes to our life.
Spend the fourth day in a mental institution. Whatever anybody in a mental hospital says to you, whatever names they call you, you won’t take it to heart. After spending a day when anybody can say anything to you, you will develop the strength to face criticism without being shaken. Not only will you be strong enough to accept all criticism, you will have compassion for those who criticize you. We get anxious over small matters. “What does he/she think about me?” We are shaken and then we react to these things. You should have the courage to give criticism and the courage to receive criticism as well. If we teach our children this, they will grow into strong and stable members of society.
Spend one day in the cemetery or funeral home. You will have a very close and intense experience of the impermanence of life. Whatever complaints you have will vanish. Having the experience that death can come anytime will change your perspective on life for good.
Just a formal education is not enough. It is important to explore different dimensions of life to get a holistic education. When we keenly see the different facets of life unfolding around us, it makes us centered and established in our Self.

BAYLOR UNIVERSITY MCLANE STADIUM

Located on a 93-acre site, Baylor University McLane Stadium holds 45,000 spectators, with the flexibility to expand to 55,000, and features a bridge crossing the Brazos River connecting the stadium to the campus. In addition to moving football on campus, the Baylor Stadium project is helping to stimulate riverfront development, revitalize downtown Waco and bring jobs and economic development to the region. BuroHappold provided option studies of proposed building geometries and the organization of primary structural systems including superstructure, long span roof structure and foundation systems for the facility.
Baylor University’s stadium is an exemplar project where our process and use of advanced computation tools achieved a high performance design solution tailored to a very tight design budget. The stadium is a collegiate football venue and, uncommon for this type of facility, has a 90 foot long cantilevered canopy over the seating bowl. As a stadium located in Central Texas, the aim was to optimize the roof to provide maximum shade before and during sporting events and as such, resulted in an asymmetrical design. To minimize the weight of the structure, BuroHappold worked with wind-engineering consultant, RWDI, to establish wind loads and arrive at an appropriate level of stiffness in the roof shape. The team then used a parametric modeling tool to optimize the final section sizes of the roof trusses and to incorporate fabricator requirements for shipping and onsite erection of the structure.
The engineering team worked with the local contracting community to establish the best-cost solution for the superstructure and signature roof for the stadium and used BIM as a means to meet design aspirations while remaining mindful of budgetary constraints. The BIM model is built to reflect the sequence of construction and draw out material quantities to make sure the project remains on budget. Because the project was fast-tracked, the structures scope had to be within budget early to achieve an early start date. Using BIM enabled the project team to refine the design, focus on areas where budgetary numbers were perceived high and work collaboratively to find more cost effective solutions. The result is a relatively low cost, light-weight roof canopy, 90 feet in span, a feature that no other collegiate venue in the United States can claim.

Key facts

  • Exemplar project which includes river bridge
  • 45,000 spectator capacity
  • High performance design solution tailored to tight design budget
  • 90 ft long cantilevered canopy over seating bowl

Helping Athletes Keep Financial Futures Bright

Bart Scott, former NFL linebacker for the New York Jets, stared out at a room filled with Boston College athletes. He was coaching the athletes, but not about swatting down short passes or hunting a quarterback. He was talking about financial literacy.
“Here’s what it comes down to: Appreciate today; respect tomorrow. You hit pro, yeah, you have to enjoy your life. But you also have to live the life of the 55-year-old you. Is that 55-year-old going to look back and say 25-year-old me spent all my money? Or did that 25-year-old me have it together?”
Scott is working as a consultant with Morgan Stanley’s Global Sports & Entertainment Division to promote financial literacy among college athletes and professional rookies. Scott, along with former NBA forward and three time all-star Antoine Walker, also a consultant, brings the weight of real world experience to the new financial literacy program.

Sobering statistics about post-career finances

According to a recent study by the National Bureau of Economic Research, one in six NFL players file for bankruptcy within twelve years of leaving the league—despite earning an average of $3.2 million over their career1. A Sports Illustrated study from 2009 ups that figure to two out of every three players if you factor in serious financial distress.
The statistics are eye-opening. Drew Hawkins, Managing Director and Head of Morgan Stanley’s Global Sports & Entertainment Division, spearheaded the literacy program to help arm players with some financial bona fides at the beginning of their career, before the real earning starts. However, he and his team quickly discovered that the typical financial literacy curriculum didn’t apply. “We needed a program that was relatable. It had to connect with the players. They’re focused on playing basketball, football. We had to create something that said ‘Hey, you don’t have to have an MBA, but you have to run the business of you.’”
John Vander Zee, Managing Director and COO of the division, concurs, “These athletes also don’t have typical careers. It also had to be a program that helps players consider the long game even though their prime earning years may only last five to seven seasons.”

Tackling the issue of financial literacy

Hawkins and Vander Zee started a listening tour. “We went to New York, Miami, the West Coast. We were talking to coaches, to athletic directors, to former athletes. And what we quickly realized was, not only did the curriculum have to be different, so did the instructors.”
Enter Scott and Walker. “We realized we couldn’t have a guy in a suit with a PowerPoint presentation,” says Hawkins. “Antoine and Bart, they walk in the room, and you see these young athletes pay attention immediately. I remember going to the session with the Seattle Seahawks and thinking ‘There isn’t a single guy checking his cell phone.’ Having Antoine and Bart changes the entire narrative.”
To quickly connect with the players, Bart Scott says that he shares the trajectory of his career to set the stage. He began his career as an undrafted free-agent. His first NFL paycheck was just $500. But over the course of his 11-year career, he made over $61.5 million. “I get into it with them. Where are you from? What was your life growing up? I grew up on the east side of Detroit. I know the temptation to live large. And that gets their attention. I’m not a guy in a suit. I’m them.”

A curriculum tailored for professional athletes

The program Hawkins and Vander Zee developed guides players through four stages of a typical athlete’s financial cycle. Using video clips and interactive elements, it details earning years, protection strategies, saving for the future and building wealth.
“We try to make it very spontaneous and engaging,” says Vander Zee. “We bring them up to the front of the group and role play situations with them. Give them nicknames, get them thinking.” The program also uses real-life situations to paint an accurate picture of the financial issues professional athletes face.
“Practice this word with me: No.” Walker tells a college football player. “You have to learn the word no. No is a powerful word. When you really start earning, a lot of opportunities come your way. You have to have your financial game down. You have to know when you can say yes and when to say no. It’s difficult to say sometimes.”
The program is already a success with its target audience
